The Story Behind iCounselor

 The Story Behind iCounselor

Many colleagues have asked me why I established iCounselor Ibrahim Ozdemir Philosophical Counseling at this career stage. The answer lies in my decades-long journey of teaching and practicing philosophy and its profound impact on the lives of those I’ve worked with.

For over 30 years, I have taught philosophy, ethics, critical thinking, and philosophical counseling and engaged with students and colleagues on how philosophical thinking can address existential challenges. In these conversations, I witnessed firsthand how philosophy could offer clarity, purpose, and hope.

Some of the most impactful moments came when five of my students shared that, after speaking with me, they decided not to end their lives, realizing there were other ways to navigate their struggles.

Similarly, I’ve worked with families on the brink of breaking apart. After engaging in deep, thoughtful discussions about their values, perspectives, and choices, many found renewed paths forward and decided to stay together.

These experiences underscored the power of philosophy as an academic discipline and a practical tool for transforming lives.

My mission with iCounselor is to bring this approach to a broader audience.

Helping individuals and families explore their options, challenge their assumptions, and find meaning in difficult times, I hope to continue making a difference—one thoughtful conversation at a time.

“The philosopher’s treatment of a question is like treating an illness.”
